Receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1978 and a law degree from the University of Toronto in 1981, David T. Sweanor has continuously worked for decades on public health policy, primarily focusing on the reduction of global cigarette smoking. Currently, David serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa and Chair of the Advisory Board at the Center for Health, Law, Policy and Ethics in the same institution.

David’s interest and expertise on the interaction of law and economics as a determinant of public health has allowed him to spearhead the development of world-leading tobacco initiatives across the globe, working with international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Pan American Health Organization and the International Union Against Cancer. David’s career has focused on risk reduction strategies, including better consumer information and the provision of less hazardous alternatives to cigarette smoking.
