Cong. Robert Ace S. Barbers

Chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs / Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources.
Session:
Harm Reduction in Legislation: The Philippine Vape Law

Hon. Robert Ace S. Barbers received his degree in AB Political Science (Minor in Economics) from the De La Salle University, and is presently taking up his Master’s degree in Public Administration and Governance at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He entered politics at a young age, and was elected as a member of the SK Federation of Makati City at 18 years old. From 1998-2007, Barbers went to serve his home province of Surigao del Norte as Representative of Surigao del Norte (2nd District) and later on as Governor (2007-2010). His late father, former senator Robert “Bobby” Z. Barbers served as Secretary of the Interior and Local Government under former president Fidel Ramos.

Rep. Barbers was recently reelected as 2nd District Representative of Surigao del Norte and also acts as Chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs as well as Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources. A staunch advocate against illegal drugs and substance abuse, he has championed the passage of the Vape Law which serves to regulate vape product from importation and manufacture all the way to their promotion. Legislation of the Vape Law would serve to protect and prevent vape users from consuming illegal substances in e-cigarettes and other Vaporized Nicotine Products (VNP’s), and provide a safe alternative for those who wish to stop consuming combustible tobacco cigarettes.
